Hannah Whyte, 2nd Year Marine and Freshwater Biology

Hey I'm Hannah and I'm co-leading the 2019 Egypt expedition. I'm a second year studying marine biology and I can't wait to go to the Red Sea with the amazing team we have. I'm very passionate about conservation and am interested in the coral projects running.

Hello I'm Hannah Whyte, I'm in my second year studying Marine and Freshwater Biology and I'll be co-leading the 2019 expedition to Egypt! I'm passionate about conservation and look forward to the public outreach projects we'll be running. I got my PADI qualifications diving in the North Sea in a dry suit, so I'm really excited to be diving in the warm waters of the Red Sea. The biodiversity of the Red Sea is astonishing and I can't wait to conduct our 4 projects ran by the 3rd years to research this!

Rosalie Bailie 3rd year Marine and Freshwater Biology

I am incredibly excited to adventure on my first expedition in the Red Sea as the team’s co-leader. As a child I was always obsessed with sea and this translated into my ambition to become a marine biologist. As a third-year student I am looking to carry out my honours project during the trip, this will include observing and taking measurements of the coral reef diversity. During summer 2018 I completed my first dives in Koh Tao, Thailand and I’m now undergoing my PADI open water course in Scotland. I aim to complete PADI rescue course this summer. I am thrilled that I can gain more experience diving and encounter the incredible wildlife in the Red Sea!

Lewis Gourlay, 2nd Year Marine and Freshwater Biology

When I'm not co-leading expedition to Egypt I can be found playing football or 3 pints deep in a bar. My interest for marine biology all began being babysat by David Attenborough and his documentaries, and after a holiday scuba diving with the fam, I decided to turn my interest into a goal, and do it for uni....

Now I'm off to Egypt with a great team and can't wait to get a tan, that's the main aim anyway.

Fraser Gosse, 3rd Year Marine and Freshwater Biology

Having grown up with a love for the outdoors and a profound interest in the natural environment its hardly surprising I seek to peruse a career in Biology. With my first ambition of becoming the new David Attenborough swiftly bypassed, I set some more realistic goals on trying to understand how the natural environment functions. This led to my choice to spend the majority of my ‘Gap year’ on a Marine Conservation base on a remote Fijian island working on a marine conservation base. The work consisted of SCUBA diving on the local reef collecting data on invertebrate communities, and fish populations. 3 years down the line I find myself with a place studying Marine and Fresh Water Biology at Glasgow University and an opportunity to undertake my very own fish behavioural study in the red sea in summer 2019. The Egypt expedition holds exciting prospects with long running scientific research as well as a comprehensive community outreach agenda. The expedition provides an exciting opportunity to further indulge my passion for both diving and marine research.

Hi I'm Lewis. When I'm not this year's secretary I can be found playing football or 3 pints deep in a bar. My interest for marine biology all began being babysat by David Attenborough and his documentaries, and after having a holiday scuba diving with the fam, I decided to turn my interest into a goal, and do it for uni....

Now I'm off to Egypt with a great team and can't wait to get a good tan, that's the main aim anyway

Robbie Stitt, 3rd Year Zoology

Hi, my name is Robbie Stitt and I’m a third year Zoology student at the University of Glasgow. I will be heading off to Egypt in summer 2019 to gather data for my honours project, conducting a study to measure the population structure and species abundance at varying depths of the Red Sea. Having always had an interest in marine life I have enjoyed snorkelling in tropical reefs in different corners of the globe, however this expedition will give me the opportunity to scuba dive for the first time and I can hardly wait to get started!

Lauren Kennedy, 2nd Year Marine and Freshwater Biology

This will be my first expedition with Glasgow Uni, where I will be acting as dive coordinator, be involved in keeping the social media sites up-to-date, and assisting the 3rd year students in their honours project research. I can’t wait to utilise the skills I have gained in my years as a diver, and my varied experience both abroad and in the UK – planning trips and overcoming sometimes challenging conditions – will put me in good stead for my role on this expedition. Last year, on a 5-week shark conservation project in Fiji, I gained experience in conducting survey dives, camera drops, beach cleans, community outreach and mangrove forest preservation work. Marine biology has always been a passion of mine, so I’m really excited to spend the summer in Egypt, learning new scientific research techniques and building on my existing skills, whilst spending time with some amazing people and wildlife!

Rhianna Leslie, 2nd Year Mathematics

I’m in my third year of studying mathematics and I am the treasurer for the expedition. It’s my first trip with the uni and I’m excited to discover more about Egypt! Having previously loved scuba diving whilst on holiday in Malta, I can’t wait to get my open water qualifications and SEA some more FINtastic marine life. I’m thrilled to be going and can’t wait to face some new challenges!!
